Special Instructions for Appliances Containing Freon:
Effective July 1, 1992, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the Federal Clean Air Act and issued new regulations concerning the removal of refrigerants containing CTC and HCFC (Freon) from appliances (i.e., refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and, dehumidifiers). The Act states that Freon must now be removed from each unit by a licensed technician prior to disposal.
In response, the Princeton Sewer Operating Committee (PSOC) must charge $30.00 per appliance for disposal of such appliances which includes the removal of Freon. A special Permit for disposal can be purchased in the Sewer Operating Office in Monument Hall, 1 Monument Drive from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
